As a Southern California Native, Dr. Ward attended the University of California, Irvine where he was a Division 1 collegiate rower and graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Biological Sciences.

Dr. Ward attended medical school at the Touro College of Medicine in New York City, and graduated with honors. As a medical student, he was inducted into the prestigious Sigma Sigma Chi honors society, and received the TOUCH Humanistic award for his volunteer and service contributions to his community. After medical school, Dr. Ward completed a research fellowship at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, where his research focused on genetic pediatric retinal diseases, as well as associations between ophthalmic diseases and psychiatric disorders.

He completed his ophthalmology residency at Geisinger Medical Center in Pennsylvania, and is completing his Vitreoretinal surgery fellowship with the Retina Institute.
